Judges' Dinner

The semi-annual CBA Judges’ Dinner was held on March 17, 2011 at the Westin Hotel.   A record 700 people attended, including over 50 members of the bench.  Those in attendance were treated to a spectacular evening of entertainment by Perry Mack, Q.C. and The Honourable Justice Robert Hall.

The Calgary Bar Association has been hosting dinners in honour of appointees to the Bench for over 80 years, and we are proud of and committed to this tradition.

In recent years the “Justices in Aprons” have donated a gourmet dinner for 10, which is auctioned to the highest bidder at the Judges’ Dinner.    This year, the dinner was “won” by Macleod Dixon, LLP.   As the bidding was heated, the Justices in Aprons graciously agreed to put on a second dinner for the runners-up in the bidding, a conglomerate led by Tim Foster of Van Harten Foster Iovinelli Joshi.  The real winner in this is the community, as proceeds  of the auction this year go to Pro Bono Law Alberta, whose mandate is to create and promote opportunities for lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to persons of limited means in our community.

Congratulations to all of our “new” appointees to the Bench over the past two years, who were honoured at this dinner.  We look forward to our next Judges’ Dinner in 2013.
