KC and Judges’ Dinners
The Calgary Bar Association proudly hosts formal dinners to celebrate Calgary KC and judicial appointments and retirements. Judicial appointment and KC appointment events are typically held on an alternating basis, with KC Dinners in even years and Judges' Dinners in odd.
Each dinner presents an opportunity to come together as a legal community to celebrate the achievements of some of our colleagues. We might even have some fun at their expense along the way!

The Legal Archives Society of Alberta and the Calgary Bar Association invites you to join us for a special evening in honour of Justice Sheilah L. Martin of the Supreme Court of Canada.
Justice Martin’s distinguished career has spanned academia, legal practice, and the judiciary. She began as a professor at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law, later serving as Acting Dean and Dean, where she helped shape a generation of legal scholars and practitioners. She subsequently practiced criminal and constitutional litigation in Calgary, appearing before the Supreme Court of Canada. During this time, she also contributed as an expert witness to the Thomas Sophonow Inquiry and worked with national leaders and advocates to help develop the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.
In 2005, Justice Martin was appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and in 2016 to the Court of Appeal of Alberta, also serving the appellate courts of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. She has also served as a Deputy Judge for the Supreme Court of Yukon since 2009. Justice Martin has carried her commitment to education into her judicial career. She serves on the Canadian Judicial Council’s Education Committee and collaborates with numerous organizations to advance judicial education. In 2017, she was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Please join us as we celebrate Justice Martin’s remarkable career and lasting contributions to the law.
