It is a genuine privilege to serve as President of the Calgary Bar Association for 2026.

Thank you for your continued support of this Association. The Calgary Bar Association plays a unique and important role in our professional lives as a community that prioritizes mentorship, collegiality, connection, and fun. In a profession that is demanding by design, spaces that allow us to learn from one another, strengthen relationships, and step outside the pressures of daily practice matter deeply.

As we embark on the Calgary Bar Association’s 135th year, I am honoured to serve as your President. Our enduring mission, as outlined in Article 2 of our Bylaws, remains steadfast: to advance the interests of the legal profession, uphold the honour of the law, and encourage cordial relations among our members.

I am excited to write to you as the new President of the Calgary Bar Association as we proudly enter our 133rd year.

Thanks to the support of our CBA Members, we have been able to support a number of charitable organizations this year.

We would like to thank the 143 guests who spent a beautiful Friday afternoon with us at the Banff Springs Golf Course on September 9, 2022.

I am writing to you as the new president of this fine organization at the beginning of 2022 where we are hopeful to renew and fulfil an important part of our mandate: the gathering of our profession in a relaxed collegial environment to celebrate and promote civility amongst our members (hopefully in person).

Thanks to the support of our CBA Members, we have been able to support a number of charitable organizations this year. We are pleased to share a few of these good deeds that our members have made possible.

We would like to thank the 100 people who spent a beautiful Friday afternoon at the Banff Springs Golf Course on September 11, 2020. The weather was fantastic and the tournament went very well, all things considered.

Thanks to the support of our CBA Members, we have been able to support a number of charitable organizations recently. We are pleased to share a few of these good deeds that our members have made possible.

The Court of Queen’s Bench is organizing a group bar call in each of Edmonton and Calgary. They are interested in providing this service to articling students who do not wish to have a private ceremony while maintaining the option of the individual bar call for others.

We take quite seriously (although hopefully with humour and fun), our mandate to promote civility, collegiality and a sense of community among and for our members. Our central thesis remains that it is more difficult to be snarky, obstreperous, less than forthright or worse with opposing counsel or the Court after you have met, talked with and perhaps even shared an adult beverage (or three) with that person at one of our events. It is also rewarding to feel part of a community of lawyers (and Judges) who make significant and meaningful contributions to worthwhile causes that need extra funding.

37 aspiring lawyers to be posthumously admitted to the bar in a ceremony Friday at the Calgary Courts Centre ahead of the 100-year anniversary of the armistice ending the conflict.
